sock monster

So exactly how does the sock monster work?
and WHY?

Before school started, I purchased 6 pair of socks for each child for their school uniform. I made a special drawer for their socks and reviewed the importance of putting both socks in the laundry.

so how is it that we are only in the 3rd week of school and each morning I'm scrambling for socks? It seems even when I have them laid out for the kids they disappear.

I really hate socks and I really don't understand the sock monster.
